As we plot our course into an ever-unpredictable future, we light the wood stove in the studio. Outside, a drama plays. The smell of ozone in the air suggests winter is just up there on top of the mountain, where its threat is gaining weight. Soon, it will come to the lake. Defiant armies of colour stand against the change, but watching from the windows, we see them fall under a salvo of autumn storms. The grey season is nearing. Winter is implacable. Renewal is inevitable.
In the studio, we meditate on the nature of change as we transform mud into stone. Life is fragile, and our world can be hostile. People are malleable, though. All of us are architects of change, and we gain strength through transformation. But growth doesn't happen in a straight line. It circles back on itself and spirals into something new. With each looping year, we're shaped and sculpted by what we've survived.

The Meaning Behind the Shape of Change Pottery Collection
Though our lives are like fragile patterns of lacework, and we snag, tear, and fray against time, we can outlive ourselves by the impressions we leave behind. Lace leaves its mark in the clay, and the fragile gains resilience through the tracks it makes in the mud. It's like casting the filigree of our words and actions in stone. We leave our mark on time through our behaviour. Our intentions carry into the future through our deeds, and they stand as a testament to who we really are.

The mugs in our Shape of Change collection are companions on our evolutionary journeys. They serve as reminders that it's in our personal shaping and reshaping that we find the greatest meaning in our lives.

The Shape of Change pottery collection, released in November of 2025, included one-of-a-kind porcelain mugs, bowls, ornaments and a butter dish all textured with lace and kiln-fired in our Canadian studio. Each piece - a reflection of transformation made tangible.
